Father James Grant appointed new Parish Priest of Carfin

Bishop Joseph Toal has announced that Father James Grant has been appointed Parish Priest of St. Francis Xavier's Carfin and Guardian of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes at Carfin.

Father Grant was ordained in 1983 and has served in parishes across the Diocese of Motherwell. Since 2019 he has served as General Secretary to the Bishop's Conference of Scotland. During his time as General Secretary, Father Grant organised and led the pilgrimage of the Relics of St Therese of Lisieux to Scotland which saw over 15,000 pilgrimage visit Carfin Grotto to honour our patron.

Father Grant succeeds Father Francis McGachey who stood down as Parish Priest in December 2019 due on health grounds. Bishop Toal asks that you keep Father McGachey in your prayers for a full recovery and thanks him for his much appreciated ministry in the Parish and caring for the Grotto.

We wish Father Grant a very warm welcome to Carfin and assure him of our prayers as he prepares to take up his appointment on the weekend of 8/9th February.
